The Katana Science Fiction Fan Association, also just referred to as the Katana Fan Association, started off as a group of fans – who have since gone on to become good friends – of Science Fiction and Fantasy who have chosen to come together and share that enjoyment in an organized manner. The group has been around for a number of years, involved in a variety of different genres, before making the decision in 2011 to unify all the different aspects of the club into a single association.

Members of the KSFFA enjoy getting together and having fun – be it watching movies, playing games, holding cook-outs, or any combination thereof, among other things. But the group also enjoy working to make their communities a better place through participation in a variety of charity and community service projects.

Members enjoy participating in organized fandom through the various aspects and identities that comprise the KSFFA, be they Star Trek®, Star Wars®, Battlestar Galactica®, Babylon 5®, Dr. Who®, the Honor Harrington Universe, etc. But they also enjoy fantasy – such as Dragonlance, Game of Thrones, Tolkien – as well as Role-Playing and Video Gaming – such as Dungeons & Dragons, Skyrim, Halo, Titanfall. Then there are all the other things the members love: sports (especially Ice Hockey), and more ‘mundane’ things like ‘normal’ fiction (i.e., Tom Clancy, Dale Brown, JD Robb). Essentially we’re first-and-foremost a group of friends who enjoy getting together and hanging our doing things we really enjoy.

Some of the KSFFA’s charitable and community service activities include:

  • Backpack Buddies
  • USMC Toys-for-Tots
  • Humane Society
  • Local Homeless Shelters & Soup Kitchens / Food Pantries
  • Wounded Warrior Project
